How We Think About It
Most homeowners wait too long to replace their system, and we get it, a new system is a real expense. But sometimes repair after repair costs more over a year or two than just putting in new equipment would have. Here’s how we think about it:
When the system is under about 10 years old, the problem is isolated (a capacitor, a contactor, a blower motor), and the rest of the system is in good shape.
When the unit is 12–15+ years old, the repair is expensive (compressor, coil, refrigerant leak on R-22 equipment), and you’re paying for a fix that won’t hold for long.
We’ll tell you honestly which category you’re in. We don’t sell you a new system when a $200 repair will get you another five good years. And we don’t put a band-aid on something that’s going to fail again next month.
